Alice Givens Jones was born December 19, 1939 and went to join the Lord on August 21, 2008

Alice Givens Jones,
Touching Lives one person at a time, making a difference at whatever she did and when she lost her sight in 1994, she was blessed with great Vision!

Alice Givens Jones was born on December 19, 1939 in Tallulah, Louisiana to Theodore Roosevelt Jackson and Fannie Mae Pitts Jackson who both preceded her in death. She was raised in San Antonio, Texas as the second of seven siblings, whom she dearly loved. Her siblings are Versa J. Lang of Houston, Priscilla E. Armstrong (Cameron) of San Antonio, Georgia Mae Preston (deceased), Cleo Bonita Spears (Thomas) of Dallas, and twins- Theodore Roosevelt Jackson, Jr. (Linda) of San Antonio and Theodora R. Baker of San Antonio.

On November 20, 1956 she became the extremely proud mother of Pamela Michelle Jackson - Ajayi. She not only gave birth to a daughter, but a life-long best friend She instilled the value of faith love, family, education and perseverance not only to her daughter, but to her three grandchildren - Adetokunbo, Christine and Georgia Ajayi. Alice not only expressed her belief in the power of education, but served as a model for many. On December 13, 1985, she graduated from San Jacinto College South with a degree in Nursing. Her daughter later followed in her mother's footsteps by becoming a Registered Nurse and also dedicated her career to helping others. Her dream in life was to see Pamela graduate from college. God expanded the dream and allowed Alice to witness each of her granddaughters receives their college degrees, inducing one of which was a degree from Spelman College.

Her sight was taken in 1994, but she was blessed with great vision. She spent severalyears in service with the Order of the Eastern Star during her cherished time in Houston, Texas. Overcoming trials with testimonies, - she committed herself tirelessly to the Methodist Transplant Team, Toastmasters International, and Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Alice had a special place in her heart for the American Council of the Blind, and created the ACB Scholarship Luncheon for visually-impaired youth. She used the luncheon as a platform to educate the public about the blind community. In recognition of Alice's vision and dedication, the luncheon was named the Alice Givens Jones Scholarship Luncheon in 2006.

Even with the shortest encounter with Alice, a life could be changed forever. She touched many lives as a beautiful vessel of Jesus Christ in her own special, unique and loving way. She was never too busy for anyone. She was always a simple phone call away. Through her attentive ear, jovial spirit and precious jewels of wisdom, she was an encouragement for many, despite of whatever she was going through.

During her time in Dallas, she was an active member of Firewheel Church, under the leadership of Pastor Jerry Zucha, Alice was a motivational speaker with engagements all over the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. She was a special guest several times on the Sound of Sight radio broadcast, which highlighted her work with several mentioning groups. She devoted tireless effort to the group, "Let's Talk," which provided support to patients and their families who were newly diagnosed with visual impairments.

In everything she did she kept the focus on God and shared His message with everyone. God's love blessed Alice in 2004, with the birth of Aden Christopher Rayshoun Carpenter, her great-grandson. With Aden, she reclaimed her childhood joy, silliness and laughter. To Alice Aden was life coming full circle seeing in him qualities of herself, her child and the future.

Alice leaves behind a legacy, a vision, love and faith God has used her to show that He truly will give us the desires of our hearts and with Him, nothing is impossible. Today, she meets her King face to face and He says, "Well done!"

Alice is survived by her daughter, granddaughters, great grandson, five siblings, precious nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Alice always admired and loved her only surviving Aunt, Ivory Moore. She now joins ghost of other ancestors looking over us.
